Genevieve, Avon Lake Class of 2016, Cleveland Senior Photographer

Its no secret that Genevieve is the most amazing assistant Karen Menyhart Photography has. This year is Genevieve’s senior year.   Genevieve helps with all of the senior shoots we do. Genevieve works every wedding schlepping gear, helping with lighting, and shooting a camera on her own. When It came time to do Genevieve’s senior pics, we knew they had to be different .

We wanted a shoot that said something about her and her passion. Presenting to you dear blog reader, Genevieve’s senior year in working pictures.

I have been documenting Genevieve and her passion for years through my lens. Every shoot she is a light model, or a focus tester, an ice light ninja, or the reflector stuntwomen, and always the punchline of my corny jokes. She faces everything I throw at her with a smile.

During downtime, she’s the creative pose test group. As soon as a shiny new lens  comes out of the box, she’s my go to model.

For every shoot, test run, and candid moments caught this year, I am so grateful and privileged to work with her. I can’t wait to see what she will do with her future through her own lens. I am so proud of my Genevieve, Momma loves you so.

ps- stay tuned for her portrait session in the spring…..

Frankie and Matt, Akron Engagement shoot

I adore these two! For a complete blog post, please visit Frankie and Matt on www.karenmenyhartweddings.com

Jenna, Avon Lake Class of 2015, May senior shoot, Cleveland Senior Photographer

Sometimes Seniors wait until May before graduation to have their senior portraits taken. I always think this is a fab idea. There are gorgeous flowering trees out in May, and you can only have the flowering trees in your session at that time of year. I had a ball meeting up with Jenna and her Mom , shooting a fun session at the Miller Road Conservatory, Bay Arts and Hunington Beach. Jenna is probably packing up her stuff soon and heading out to Bowling Green. As an alumni of BG, I can tell you Jenna, that you will love it! Best of luck, Go Falcons!

Jake Clemons in Your Living Room, Cleveland Photographer

Ok- so I am fan girling here- I saw Jake Clemons a few weeks ago in Bill T’s living room! Some of you may ask, who is that handsome dude with the cool glasses in these pics? Well, he’s Jake Clemons, a musician and one of the regular members of Bruce Springsteen’s E. Street Band.

Now it’s no secret to those who know me that Bruce and I have been an item since my first concert in 1985. If there is a chance to hang with a member of the E. street band, I make it happen. This chance had me driving all the way to Howell, Michigan to meet Jake Clemens.

What’s really cool about the E. Street band is that all of the members are amazing musicians and  have careerers outside of the E. Street Band. Jake is multi-talented musician who tours on his own when he’s not hanging with Springsteen. Jake was touring on his own , in a serious of really small and unique venues!

A little side chat here- Bruce fans stick together. Once you meet up with another fan, you know that they are in your tribe.  A very fortutious meeting happened for me last April in Pittsburgh, at the Springsteen concert . I met up with a group of fans from Detroit. Bill T , his friends, and  I got along just fine , and I was welcomed into his tribe through a fun Facebook fan page. Bill is a big fan of Jake Clemons. One of his pals heard about a fun tour/ adventure that Jake was creating across the country for his fans.  Basically, Jake was offering to give a concert to a small group of fans in their living rooms. The lucky fans who have hosted Jake are all around the world ! Bill T was a lucky fan who got to host Jake in his living room in Howell, Michigan last week.  As a member of Bill T’s tribe, I got to go!

Jake walked in, quietly set up, and then blew us away with his musical talent. He shared his inspirations for songwriting, and amazing stories from the road. Jake Clemons is a natural born story teller. He did share a few tales of Bruce Springsteen and his famous uncle, Clarence Clemons of the E. Street Band, but this night was all about Jake and his music.

Jake wanted to bring back the music and the experience of the concert back to it’s basic roots. Long ago, people would gather in homes and invite musicians to play. The concerts were intimate, and the music sincere. Jake wants to revisit this concept, as he travels all over the USA playing small concerts in fan’s living rooms. It was an incredible experience as the listener. His stories and music left me with goosebumps.(not to mention his lovely southern accent). I went to this concert to as a Bruce fan, excited to meet and hear Jake Clemons. I left my pal Bill’s house as a brand new Jake Clemons fan, who… just happens to like Bruce Springsteen a little bit as well.

Lauren and Jim engagement shoot, Cleveland Wedding Photographer

Meet Lauren and Jim. They are so much fun and they are in L-O-V-E !

I had a GREAT time photographing their engagement session. We picked a beautiful time in Cleveland for the session, right when Wade Oval , The Cleveland Museum of Art and The Cultural Gardens were in full Spring bloom.

Both Lauren and Jim are doctors, and I expected a more serious shoot. It took about 5 minutes for these funny Docs to relax and have fun. They go so well together. Jim is a total goof ball, and Lauren just laughs and loves it. Here’s how the fun went down…..

The Cleveland Cultural Gardens, one of the prettiest places in CLE!

Lauren, you are so gorgeous….

AND then……  all silly broke out! Jim, you crack me up! It was time for the “Jim inspired shoot”…

Engagement shoots styled by JIm…..

Lauren thinks of everything…. She’s wearing the most beautiful shade of fuchsia, with touches of grey…  Ta Daa! Her wedding colors! Lauren and Jim refer to each other as LOML, a little inside joke… ( I think it stands for Love Of My Life )…. awwww…..

Off to Wade Lagoon in front of the Cleveland Museum of Art.  I get extra points for finding tulips the exact shade of Lauren and Jim’s wedding colors! Woot!

Jim’s signature engagement pose… The Pretzel….. Gotta love that smile!

Lauren and Jim brought along some cheerleaders- brother A.J. ( who had the voice of an angel… inside joke) and his wife, Haley. They were excellent prop holders, and tree branch designers, and entertainers. I might have to hire them for future engagement shoots….

Lauren and Jim, I can not wait for your August Wedding…. I need to practice laughing and photographing at the same time ! See you soon!

So Far Sounds, Cleveland Photographer

This week, I had the honor of photographing May’s concert series for So Far Cleveland. So Far Cleveland is an event that hosts an ultra cool, top secret concert series each month all over the city of Cleveland. Each month’s concert and venue is hush -hush and top secret. Fans are notified of the venue a few days before the event. Local and national acts perform in these very small places to a small audience. The lucky ones who get in are always in for an unexpected  and blow your mind kind of night. May’s concert series was hosted in the Duck Den, someone’s ultra cool urban loft apartment. The crazy coolness of this place was adorned by the thousands of rubber ducks decorating every surface of the place. So far Sounds embraced the duckies, and I found some serious inspiration in the little quackers. Below are some shots of the night featuring Jared MahoneDolfish MusicMaria Levitov and Counterfeit Madison

So Far Sounds is an international movement, and Cleveland is lucky to be one of the host cities. Check out So Far Sounds to see if your city is a host city…

‘Twas the Night of the Ducks and Fab Music in the Duck Den. The Crowd was in a festive mood…

Jared Mahone from Columbus, Ohio started off the night. He told some great stories of the road, recording in LA, and how he still searches for his sense of home on the road. His song California blew me away, and by the looks of it, the audience as well.

Next up was Cleveland’s own Dolfish Music. These two brothers have a cool sound and vibe that is inspired by their Collingwood neighborhood. It’s an up and coming hip neighborhood of music and art in Cleveland. The whole idea behind So Far Sounds is to create an atmosphere where all you here is the music, no distractions, cell phones, loud people and noisy bars to distract from the artist. Dolfish Music are masters of musical tales such as Madame Renee the fortune teller, horrible bosses, and what everyone wants to say at their own funeral. I loved this band!

Fun Fact, Dolfish will be playing this summer at the So Far Seoul series… Way to represent the CLE!

For the end of the night, we were treated to Maria Levitov and Counterfeit Madison. Two beautiful , and soulful women. Maria told us that she was on her way to a gig in Columbus, when she saw Counterfeit Madison playing on the street with a band. She vowed to play music with her, and the rest is history. Gorgeous sound from these ladies….

My first love is shooting live Rock and Roll shows, and it was a dream come true to shoot for So Far Sounds. I hope to be asked back again someday… Cheers!

Something Blue, a rocking Cleveland Engagement Shoot

Nick and I had soooo much fun photographing Jess and Chris’s Cleveland Engagement Shoot! These two just go together, they have a special magic about them!

We started off out shoot in Lakewood, and then off to Clevleand , where I found this A-Mazing blue wall… Chris loved the doors of Saint James Parish… he thought they were photo awesome, and I have to agree. Chris also rocks a suit….

Jessica grew up in Cleveland, and Chris grew up in Columbus… Once they met, he packed his bags and headed for the CLE! One look at Jessica and we know why!

Did I mention how fun they are? Nobody puts Chris in a corner….

After the amazing blue wall, I ran around one of my favorite Cleveland neighborhoods with these two fun peeps……

I was REALLY feeing the blue on this shoot!

Jessica, you are soooo darling!

Off we went into the sunset ( literally) and finished the shoot at Cleveland’s Edgewater Park! I can not wait to shoot your wedding in September, Jessica and Chris! Thanks for the really fun night!
